Repetto Farms Irrigation Efficiency and Agricultural Pond
Completed
This project aimed to improve water security for the Repetto agricultural operation in lower San Gregorio Creek Watershed and improve instream flow conditions for sensitive species and other water users downstream. The project improved irrigation efficiencies in water and energy use, and constructed an irrigation pond to store winter water for use during the summer and act as a regulating reservoir to reduce the diversion rates from San Gregorio Creek. The new system allows the farmer to have a secure water storage facility to serve as a limited backup during a drought period. Every year during the late summer when streamflows are at their lowest, the farmer will rely only on water stored

San Gregorio Creek is home to threatened Steelhead trout. Low streamflows, especially during summer months, has been identified as a major concern for San Gregorio Creek watershed, and a threat to the Steelhead population. This project conserved water and is timing irrigation to not draw from the creek during low flow periods.
This project builds water storage for a local farmer. Coastal San Mateo County was especially hard hit during the drought because they rely on surface and ground water. The irrigation improvements reduced both water and energy requirements for this operation, and the agricultural pond builds water security for dry summer months and prolonged dry periods.
