Trinity River Restoration Program Support Services - Dyers Woad Removal

Completed
This project involved invasive species removal at sites administered by the Trinity River Restoration Program (TRRP). In 2014 the TCRCD recommended continued treatment of dyer’s woad at the Upper and Lower Junction City sites and treatment of the dyer’s woad population along Sky Ranch road. The Sky Ranch road population is directly upstream of the Upper and Lower Junction City sites and has the potential to spread onto current and future TRRP projects sites. Over five years, the dyer's woad population decreased from an area encompassing over 35 acres to just 40 plants total.

Dyer’s woad is considered a noxious weed because it is a non-palatable, aggressively growing plant that has escaped cultivation and established populations over thousands of acres throughout the northwestern United States. Its removal facilitates healthy watersheds.
