Project Overview

Basics

Wildlife Habitat Improvement
Invertebrate (Insect, Crustacean) Habitat Restoration
CARCD WCB Climate and Wildlife Project #11

Implementation
Establishment of at least 2 acres of monarch and pollinator habitat on working lands and public land. This project will take place on at least 5 different properties within Napa County. We will work with landowners to develop site specific plans that cover site preparation, maintenance, and long term protection. Once plans are finalized we will install these high quality pollinator habitat plantings.

Project Attributes

Census Tract Income
True
Direct Benefits to Disadvantaged Communities (DACs)
This project will benefit disadvantaged communities as at least one of the plantings will take place at a location where the majority of the people living or working there are socially and/or economically disadvantaged. Update as of 7/10/2025: 10 projects have been implemented and 3 of those benefit DACs (St. Mary's Church Planting, Open Mind Learning Center planting, and Dos Olivos). Need to add BVE (3.19.26) once completed phase 2.
EnviroScreen
Update 3/19/26 (implemented projects only): St. Marys Planting: >40-50 Open Mind Learning Center Planting: >50-60 Benessere Vineyard Planting: >30-40 Chandon Vineyard: >10-20 Hoot Owl Farm: 0-5 Oakville Ranch: This tract does not have an overall CalEnviroScreen score because of a low population. Seavey Vineyard: >20-30 Vine Trail: >40-50 Gwinllan Jones: >20-30 Dos Olivos: >30-40 Browns Valley Elementary School: 6
Free and Reduced Lunch
False
Indirect Benefits to Disadvantaged Communities (DACs)
*Napa County Schools get 63% reduced and free lunch. Not sure how to search more specific regions within the Co. Update 3/19/2026: Four community pollinator plantings have been completed and they provide indirect benefits to DACs. St. Mary's Church and The Vine Trail sites are accessible to the whole community who will benefit from the educational signage posted and beautiful/ inspiring ascetics. Also improved pollination services to adjacent home gardens. Open Mind Learning Center will provide benefits as the garden will serve as an alternative to traditional learning and provide sensory/ environmental benefits to special needs children. We are in the planning phase of more community projects at McPherson Elementary School and potentially other locations.
Tribal Engagement (True/False)

Project Themes

Project Themes

Reducing the carbon and greenhouse gas emissions that drive climate change are necessary to increase our wildlife’s ability to survive the effects of climate change. This project reduces GHG in the atmosphere, improves soil health, improves water retention, and improves wildlife habitat by implementing carbon farm plans.
Bilingual signage will be posted at community planting site. Plant ID tags with botanical and common name have been installed. Educational sign about pollinators in process.
This project addresses habitat loss by expanding monarch, pollinator, and other wildlife habitat on public and private lands. Project will also increase and improve monarch data gathered through the use of Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program (IMMP) data collection and monitoring protocols vital to shaping our understanding of how monarchs interact with their environment, documenting conservation efforts, and tracking the population and its habitat as they change over time.
