Camp San Luis Obispo Drainage Water Quality Improvement and Habitat Enhancement Project

Implementation
The project will implement vegetated bioswales, rain gardens, and gravel inclusion basins, alongside three roadways on Camp San Luis Obispo, a military installation in the District. The objective of the project is to reduce sediment and nutrient loading in Chorro Creek to improve downstream water quality conditions for steelhead trout through stormwater management and improve monarch and pollinator habitat on the base. The implemented structures will slow and treat stormwater flows, prevent and reduce erosion, and improve infiltration before entering Chorro Creek. The project is set to go to construction Summer of 2023.

Project Themes

Chorro Creek provides habitat for several sensitive species including spawning and rearing habitat for Federally threatened steelhead trout, impaired by fine sediment. Bioswales are planted with native plants that support native pollinators and overwintering monarch butterflies.
Reduced sediment loads to chorro creek and increased infiltration of stormwater.
