Carbon Farm Plan 17: Row Crop

Implementation
This project is located on 11-acres in Arcata. The producer grows row crops, berries, and several fruit trees. They raise several goats, sheep, and chickens, with aspirations to expand their livestock. They also operate a therapy farm program for individuals with developmental disorders. In collaboration with the Humboldt County Resource Conservation District, the producers wrote a Carbon Farm Plan and are implementing a hedgerow and cover crop project with the CDFA Healthy Soils Program.

Project Themes

Project Themes

This plan identifies several practices that will sequester atmospheric carbon. The awarded projects (hedgerow and cover crops) will help achieve these objectives by increasing the photosynthetic potential on the ground. These conservation practices will also build overall farm resilience by improving soil health and increasing biodiversity.
This Carbon Farm Plan supports a small-scale, local farming operation run by a Limited Resource Farmer, a Beginning Farmer, and a Veteran Farmer. The farmer will contribute to the local foodshed with fresh, seasonal produce.
