Solano RCD will be taking 3rd grade from the only elementary school in Rio Vista to the project site every year as the field trip component to our Watershed Explorers program, where they will participate in hands-on environmental education, assist in habitat planting efforts. Many of these students come from neighboring Vallejo, nearly all of which is designated as a disadvantaged community with some of the highest EnviroScreen scores in the region.
Wildlife Habitat Improvement Invertebrate (Insect, Crustacean) Habitat Restoration
Solano RCD is proposing to work with Solano County to install monarch butterfly habitat at Sandy Beach County Park. This will include seeding and planting herbaceous plants on about 3.4 acres, as well as planting a 1300-foot hedgerow of trees and shrubs around the perimeter of the campground. Solano RCD will also work with Solano County on continued replants of trees and shrubs between the campsites at the park and provide technical assistance to maintenance staff.
