Forest Management Wildfire Mitigation
A two-part project involving community wildfire mitigation and prescribed burn implementation. Part one includes cost-share mechanical and hand fuel reduction to create defensible space around homes adjacent to Kennedy Grove Regional Recreation Area that experience very high fire hazard severity. Reduced fuels include dead and dying vegetation, ladder fuels, and highly flammable plants such as juniper and cypress. The program also includes education related to defensible space requirements and maintenance. Part two involves 20 acres of prescribed burn on private land for fuel reduction and invasive species control.
