Post-Implementation
Project #2016-02: Water Quality and Quantity Project is part of the Conserving Our Watersheds Program that assists landowners with stewardship activities that improve water quality and habitat. The goals of Project 2016-02 was to exclude livestock from a tributary to Keys Creek and provide an alternative water source for the livestock to improve livestock distribution across the ranch and increase on-farm water availability. The ranch completed two (2) management practices: water developments and riparian fencing. Best management will improve the non-point source pollution loading by decreasing potential pathogen concentrations and sediment loading into Tomales Bay watershed.

The implementation of water developments, such as this project, increased on-farm water availability and improve livestock distribution; practices designed to improve rangeland health and water holding capacity
Livestock distribution throughout the ranch is vital to the overall health of the grazing land as well as the health of the watershed. The development of an upland water facility and installation of a riparian fence will exclude livestock from the creeks. This will allow the producer to manage the land more effectively by distributing livestock and creating grazing regime across the ranch. Thus decreasing the pathogen loading into the watersheds.
This project occurs on an agricultural easement.
This project will support local food and fiber production as well as aiding in good land stewardship.
