Project Overview
Basics
Completed
Urban Streams Program carries out restoration and conservation practices as they relate to improving natural processes in urbanized watersheds and facilitates the regulatory process in support of local, state and federal agencies in addition to private property owners that reside along creeks. Additionally, the Urban Streams Coordination Program organizes and leads creek clean-up events, technical trainings, and hands-on workshops. The Urban Streams Coordinator (USC) has educated a total of 1,936 people since its inception in September, 2014 through December, 2018. Lastly, USC has led 10 creek clean up events and carried out 37 technical trainings/hands-on workshops throughout Marin County.

USC has worked closely with school groups of all ages from 1st graders to graduate school students. Efforts included hands-on restoration project days controlling erosion and planting native species as well as the removal of non-native invasive species. Additionally, USC has led field trips for students to learn about restoration projects, regulatory compliance and to observe salmon spawning in Lagunitas Creek.
USC has worked closely with CA Dept of Fish and Wildlife as well as National Marine Fisheries Services to obtain the appropriate training and experience in handling listed fish species such as coho salmon, chinook salmon and steelhead trout. As well, USC works to ensure all protected species under CA and Federal Endangered Species Act are protected in all restoration endeavors.
Roughly 1,936 residents and municipal staff in Marin County have been educated about watershed stewardship, erosion control, regulatory compliance, stormwater management, invasive species management, hydrology-fluvial geomorphology, native plant propagation and overall restoration.
