SRCD Carbon Farm Plan #4 (Vineyard)
Project Overview
Basics
SRCD Carbon Farm Plan #4 (Vineyard)
Completed
The Carbon Farm Plan works to help this vineyard increase the amount of photosynthetically captured carbon sequestered in long-term carbon pools on the farm or ranch, such as soil or plants. This vineyard set out to use measures such as mulching with compost, integration of livestock for weed control and soil-beneficial grazing, hedgerow and tree planting, and switching from fuel-burning to electric farm equipment.

The Carbon Farm Plan relates to climate change because it will help reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The plan details how less GHG emissions will come from future farm management actions compared to the current system. For example, much or all of the weed control in the rangeland portion of the farm will be done by ruminants rather than diesel power. More CO2 will be sequestered in the soil network of the vineyard and rangeland when compost is applied because the increased soil vitality will increase the drawdown of CO2 into organic carbon held in the soil and plants.
The Carbon Farm Plan will not only help this vineyard become more sustainable, it will also increase the productivity of the soil and thus enhance the production of the wine grapes.

Notes
01/03/2020 9:18 AM | Valerie Quinto | The total reduction of greenhouse gas emissions stemming from the proposed practices of this carbon farm plan is projected to be 517.8 metric tons CO2e annually and 10369.4 metric tons CO2e over the course of 20 years. |
