Topanga Lagoon Restoration Planning

Planning/Design
The project consists of reviewing existing data and conducting technical studies to inform the restoration design of Topanga Lagoon and Beach with the goal of recreating a historic lagoon. With input from a technical advisory committee and public stakeholders, we will develop 3 conceptual alternatives to restore ecological function, increase resiliency to sea level rise and climate change, and enhance visitor experience, including potential conversion of onsite structures for low cost overnight accommodations. The restored lagoon will provide habitat to endangered southern steelhead trout and tidewater gobis, among other native species.

Project Themes

Project Themes

Project design will combat impacts of future sea level rise.
Topanga Creek is one of the last creeks in Los Angeles where southern steelhead trout are found. Enhancing the lagoon will enhance passageway for these trout populations.
Enhancing Topanga Lagoon will enchance health of Topanga Creek and Garapito Watershed overall.
