Project Overview
Basics
Improving Forest Health in the Yurok Community Forest and Salmon Sanctuary
Implementation
This project involves pre-commercial thinning, restoration, and fuels reduction on young overstocked post-industrial properties that were acquired by the Yurok Tribe and the Western Rivers Conservancy over the last decade. In addition, this project will build a critical fuels break on the boundary of the Yurok Salmon Park and repair necessary transportation infrastructure for maintaining management capacity across a significant portion of the Blue Creek Salmon Park and the Yurok Community Forest.

Project Themes
Project Themes
This project will restore carbon sequestration potential and growth capacity in overstocked post-industrial timber lands.
This project will reduce fuels across 2,471 acres. The Yurok Tribe also acquired 22,495 acres of former industrial property in the lower Klamath River watershed and within Yurok Ancestral Territory, out of which the Tribe has developed a 21,240.5-acre carbon project. The Tribe will implement a selective timber harvest strategy that will produce a continual supply of wood through repeated, light entries and the maintenance of a continuous tree canopy.
Western Rivers Forestry will manage 14,985.3 acres of former Green Diamond Resource Company timberland in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties, California for improved fish and wildlife habitat. The Yurok Tribe acquired 22,495 acres of former industrial property in the lower Klamath River watershed and within Yurok Ancestral Territory. The Tribe will manage this property to preserve and enhance water quality, wildlife habitat, and the ecological and cultural value of the property.
