Marin County Measure A Support to MRCD

Planning/Design
Marin County voters approved Measure A, a sales tax, to create a fund to support the and preservation of Marin County parks, open space preserves, and farmland. This 1/4 cent sales tax was estimated to generate ~$10,000,000/year; 5% was allocated to the Marin RCD for the purpose of assisting ranchers and farmers in enhancing agricultural and natural resource values on easement-protected properties. To date, ~75% of Marin RCD's allocation has directly matched construction funds, and ~25% covered administrative, permitting and design costs. This profile entry is to account for the 25% as the construction dollars are accounted in the project profiles it matched.

Measure A funds have contributed to several projects that were built to sequester atmospheric carbon, primarily by installing native plants. Search through Marin RCD's project profiles for details, as this profile is documenting administrative, permitting and planning funds.
Measure A funds have built several projects that enhance habitat for wildlife, including red-legged frogs. Search through Marin RCD's project profiles for details, as this profile is documenting administrative, permitting and planning funds.
Marin RCD has leveraged Measure A funds to secure additional funding to support the Conserving Our Watersheds program that improves water quality of impaired water bodies. Search through Marin RCD's project profiles for details, as this profile is documenting administrative, permitting and planning funds.
Measure A funds were designated to match dollars being spent on agricultural lands protected by agricultural easements..
All Measure A dollars were spent on activities that directly help local farms. Marin RCD exists to help the agricultural community with land stewardship. A portion of Measure A funds were used to update a programmatic CEQA document that helps streamline the environmental review process in order to incentivize restoration work on private agricultural lands. This programmatic CEQA process encourages local farms to pursue restoration projects as it reduces the amount of time and money spent in the permitting process.
