Project Overview
Basics
Fairfield Suisun Sewer District Resilient and Green Program
Planning/Design
The project is a collaboration of two non-profit organizations and Solano RCD to plan and potentially execute a plan to assess FSSD's facilities and lands around .
1. Native plant restoration to sequester carbon. Including through ice plant removal, tree planting, ephemeral channel habitat restoration, and lawn replacement;
2. Green stormwater infrastructure showcase in parking lots;
3. Maximizing on-site recycled water use and/or capture of roof runoff from buildings. With potential reuse opportunities to consider including flushing toilets, irrigation, and vehicle washing;
4. Freshwater wetland restoration in Final Effluent Holding Reservoirs;
5. Developing new spaces and trails

Project Themes
Project Themes
This planning project will include practices that have been proven to sequester carbon such as planting perennial grasses, tees, shrubs as well as converting annual vegetation to perennial vegetation.
Part of the plan to to allow for the community to take part in implementing the project. Types of activities will be weed removal, native plant install, and irrigation installation. There could also be and education component during the interpretive signage design process.
This planning process in to large watersheds in Solano County. The planning process would have the positive impact on watershed health on the community that lives in the watershed.

Notes
06/10/2022 9:51 AM | Christopher Rose | On 6-7-22 Solano RCD staff had a meeting with the "Team" which included a landscape architect from Santa Cruz, Sustainable Solano, and FSSD staff to discuss the project. The meeting was part of a series of meetings to plan the "Greening and Resiliency Program" at FSSD facility in Fairfield. Solano RCD will be focused on the native plant and habitat restoration aspects of the project. |
