CARCD WCB Climate and Wildlife Project: San Mateo RCD Johnston Ranch Riparian Enhancement

Implementation
This project will remove invasive species to promote biodiversity and habitat resilience in coastal San Mateo County, CA. The restoration site is located along Arroyo Leon Creek, in the vicinity of the Higgins Canyon Road Bridge at the historic Johnston House property. The proposed project scope includes up to 3 acres of invasive species removal. The project will improve California Red Legged Frogs (CRLF) and San Francisco Garter Snakes (SFGS) breeding, foraging, sheltering, migration, and/ or dispersal habitat.

Project Themes

Project Themes

This project addresses habitat loss by restoring wildlife habitat on public lands. Riparian habitat will be restored through the removal of target invasive species, which suffocate native vegetation and are toxic to wildlife. With the invasive species removed, native vegetation readily repopulates and supports the needs of federally listed endangered species, like California Red-Legged frog and San Francisco Garter Snake.
