Redway Shaded Fuel Break

Completed
This project encompassed 52.3 acres of fuel reduction and forest thinning treatments around the communities of Redway and Meadows Park in southern Humboldt. This included establishing a shaded fuel break along a strategic ridgetop and treating fuels within the WUI of Redway and Meadows Park communities. The shaded fuel break will follow an established road along the ridgetop, which lies northeast of the town of Redway and which has been identified as a key feature to aid in defense against wildfires. Mechanical treatments will be used where feasible, and hand treatments will be used on steep terrain common to the area.

Project Themes

Project Themes

This project will reduce forest fuel loads in the wildland-unban interface/intermix of a fire-vulnerable community. By establishing a shaded fuel break along a strategic ridgeline, firefighting operations will be better able to defend the region against future wildfires.
