Direct Benefits to Disadvantaged Communities (DACs)
Dixon Unified Students visit the Pond C site through the Solano RCD Watershed Explorers and Biomonitoring Education Programs and they are regular participants in volunteer and education events at the site. Solano RCD has worked with local tribal community representatives on other projects at this site and we are hopeful that they will participate in upcoming volunteer events. In addition, Dixon RCD will conduct targeted outreach in Spanish to English Learner Advisory Committees (ELAC) from Dixon schools and social media groups to encourage participation in upcoming volunteer events. Dixon High School and University of California Davis students from Environmental Studies Program are regular participants in volunteer and education events at the Casey Road site.
Indirect Benefits to Disadvantaged Communities (DACs)
The Pond C & Casey Road Projects are located just south of the City of Dixon and provide water quality, reduced flooding and wildlife habitat for Dixon residents as well as the surrounding agricultural lands and rural lands where a high number of the disadvantaged households are as well as the Dixon Migrant and Children’s Center are located. The Casey Road project is evaluating the ability to utilize native vegetation and pollinator habitat along the drainage as an alternative to long-term use of herbicides. Both the City of Dixon and the surrounding agricultural areas benefit from the drainage facilities, the ability to find alternatives to herbicide treatments for maintenance and increased pollinator habitat.
Wildlife Habitat Improvement Invertebrate (Insect, Crustacean) Habitat Restoration
In partnership with Solano RCD, and City of Dixon we will
1. Install a Monarch and Pollinator Habitat demo garden near the front entrance of City of Dixon's Pond C Biofiltration/Stormwater Pond (10,000 square feet of seeding, 6,500 square feet of demo garden, plug planting with volunteer planting, "Pond C Partner", and school field trip events).
2. Restore and rehabilitate portions of 1/2 mile vegetated ditch demonstration project along Dixon RCD drain system at Casey Road and (removal and control of non-native, invasive vegetation as well as planting and maintenance of native, pollinator friendly vegetation).
3. Additional project(s) are to be determined.
