Direct Benefits to Disadvantaged Communities (DACs)
Dixon Unified Students visit the Pond C site through the Solano RCD Watershed Explorers and Biomonitoring Education Programs and they are regular participants in volunteer and education events at the site. Solano RCD has worked with local tribal community representatives on other projects at this site and we are hopeful that they will participate in upcoming volunteer events. In addition, Dixon RCD will conduct targeted outreach in Spanish to English Learner Advisory Committees (ELAC) from Dixon schools and social media groups to encourage participation in upcoming volunteer events. Dixon High School and University of California Davis students from Environmental Studies Program are regular participants in volunteer and education events at the Casey Road site.

Indirect Benefits to Disadvantaged Communities (DACs)
The Pond C & Casey Road Projects are located just south of the City of Dixon and provide water quality, reduced flooding and wildlife habitat for Dixon residents as well as the surrounding agricultural lands and rural lands where a high number of the disadvantaged households are as well as the Dixon Migrant and Children’s Center are located. The Casey Road project is evaluating the ability to utilize native vegetation and pollinator habitat along the drainage as an alternative to long-term use of herbicides. Both the City of Dixon and the surrounding agricultural areas benefit from the drainage facilities, the ability to find alternatives to herbicide treatments for maintenance and increased pollinator habitat.

We will be starting a "Pond C Partners" Program to build up a group of long-term community volunteers for the Pond and it's habitat as well as holding volunteer planting events and 3rd Grade Watershed Explorer trips.
This project addresses habitat loss by expanding monarch, pollinator, and other wildlife habitat on public lands.

Notes
08/26/2024 9:34 AM | Kelly Huff | Pond C: March 16, 2024 a volunteer Planting Day of native flowering forbs and native milkweed was held at our Pond C Project Site for the installation of the monarch demo garden. This is to help provide food and resources for monarch butterflies and caterpillars. The turn out of the event was great and the community is excited to continue to follow along with us on this project. Establishment of plant species have gone well and we are continuing to monitor them and enjoying watching them bloom. Casey Road: February 2024 Planting of our Casey Road project site was completed with UC Davis student volunteers to re-establish Dixon RCD's native vegetative ditch. The plug plating done has done well and is continuing to be monitored for any invasive weeds and mowing. |
