Carbon Farm Planning & Implementation
This family farm currently raises about 5,500 USDA-certified organic, and pasture-raised birds, on 80 acres. The farm is also home to a small herd of Jersey cows. Un-irrigated pastures, grazed by both cows and chickens, make up nearly 75% of the farm. The landowner’s goals include: keeping the farm within the family; continuing to learn and improve land management practices; integrating trees into the pasture system for shade and forage; increasing plant and wildlife diversity; enhancing the existing compost operation; maintaining and improving carbon sequestration; increasing the livestock carrying capacity; and modernizing the on-farm egg processing facility.
